Our mission is to serve Christ and spread the Gospel of His life-changing love through the power of the Holy Spirit ..."to the ends of the earth". The Lord has currently called us to do that as missionaries in Honduras.
Honduras is a country of approximately 8 million people with almost 40% of the population age 14 and under. About 18% of the population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25/day and 30% live on less than $2.00/day, although 60% of the population is considered to live below the national poverty line. On average, Hondurans complete 5.4 years of schooling, which is equivelent to about a 5th or 6th grade education, although this is much lower is rural areas. Obviously, this has a large impact on the illiteracy rates of the population, particularly in rural areas. Only 5.4% of the population is considered to reach a full undergraduate (or high school )level of education. The country is considered to be Christian, with 97% of the population being Roman Catholic and 3% Protestant - although living here would make you question those statistics!
We, Reed and Kim Skinner and family, began our ministry in Honduras as missionaries with Orphanage Emmanuel in Guiamaca. The Lord used our time of service at Emmanuel as a period of preparation for what He would call us to next. The Lord has since moved us to minister to the peoples outside the walls of the orphanage; specifically to the indigenous peoples - the tribes - of Honduras. The indigenous peoples tend to live in very remote, rural areas of the country making them some of the most impoverished, uneducated peoples of Hunduras. We also share the love, mercy and grace of Christ Jesus as a part of our daily living in country - please see the Life Ministry tab for more information. We give ALL honor and glory to Christ Jesus for anything that He does through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is by His grace that He allows us to be a part of His great plan of salvation for all the world.
